How do I connect to an iPass-enabled hotspot?
It is extremely easy to connect to iPass-enabled hotspots. Enabled Wi-Fi networks are indicated with a network indication (iOS) or iPass-icon in the app (Android/Windows/Mac). iOS users need a one-time network “association” to subsequently automatically connect to the network. With Android, Windows and Mac connections are fully automatic. You can enable or disable automatic connections in the settings of the app and client.
Do I need to enter usernames and/or password to connect to the Wi-Fi hotspots?
No. This is taken care of in the background by the app and you will be connected automatically.
In some cases when using Inflight services that has not been upgraded by the wi-fi provider you may need to sign in using a web browser. More information available in the Inflight FAQ here.
Will it always work?
We wish, but that is utopia unfortunately! Reality is that with more than 68 millions hotspots around the globe, there will be a malfunctioning hotspot here and there. If you stumble across a bad hotspots, please don’t hesitate to let us know, so we can have it fixed by our providers. We are also monitoring the global network proactively so that we can offer the best available Wi-Fiquality to our customers.
Can I still connect outside the iPass Global Wi-Fi system to other Wi-Fi networks?
Yes, the apps will only connect to iPass-enabled networks. You home or work Wi-Fi network usually has higher priority so it will not affect connecting to those networks. If the app stumbles upon a bad hotspot, it will go to the background after a few connectivity attempts. If you want to manually exclude networks you can set that in the settings of the app.
Can I suggest a location or Wi-Fi provider you should work with to improve your coverage?
Yes Please! We are constantly striving to provide the best network coverage possible on locations where our customers travel to. If you come across popular Wi-Fi networks or locations which are not iPass-enabled yet, let us know so we can try to include them in our footprint.
How do I connect to Wi-Fi using the iPass app?
Android: Open the iPass app, which will automatically connect you to an iPass hotspot when in range.
iPhone/iPad: Open up your Settings menu, then your Wi-Fi menu. Ensure Wi-Fi is enabled, and select a hotspot with “Check for iPass” listed underneath the name. The iPass app will then automatically log you in.
Laptops: Click on the iPass logo (in your system tray/dock,) which will launch the iPass app and automatically connect you to an iPass hotspot when in range.
Make sure you have activated the software before trying to connect.
Where can I use the iPass app?
Use the iPass app as you travel around the world. iPass hotspots are available at many popular hotel chains, on flights, at convention centres, airports, and outdoor networks.
Is the iPass service available on flights?
The iPass app keeps you connected in the air on many international flights, subject to airline policy, routes and enabled aircraft.
Is there a limit on upload or download of data?
There is no limit on the uploading or downloading of data on premium wi-fi. For inflight wi-fi there is Fair Usage Policy of 1GB per user and month.
How can I find iPass Wi-Fi hotspots?
To locate a selection of iPass hotspots, use the hotspot finder feature within the iPass app on your smartphone/tablet or visit https://wifilookup.com .
Here you can enter a city name or address, and see the iPass hotspots available at that location.Please note that if you type in a country, the hotspot finder will only show you locations in the capital city. If you have suggestions for hotspots at a special location, please let us know and we will pass the information on.
Please note that only an indicative part of all iPass hotspots are displayed in the hotspot finder at this time.
How can I tell which hotspots are iPass-enabled in the app?
Android, Mac laptop and Windows laptop
All iPass hotspots will show the iPass icon next to the hotspot name, e.g.
The first icon indicates an iPass hotspot name that you have connected to before.
The second icon (with the question mark) indicates that this is an iPass hotspot you have not connected to yet.
Go to your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
All iPass hotspots will show a “Check for iPass” label underneath their name.
Hotspots you have connected to before will be remembered in the future, so you can go straight to the app where the iPass icon will be displayed.
